UAL LGBTQ is a network within the UAL students union that pays specific attention to the needs of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Queer or Questioning people.
The story so far...
2007-2008 was a massive success for our LGBT. Thanks to the efforts of Scott Rayfield the society grew throughout the year, holding regular meetings and social events. Members were sent to the annual NUS LGBT conference in Nottingham, and we made ourselves known to the wider London LGBT Community when we became part of the London LGBT Societies United. Getting involved with the Youth@Pride organisation saw our members actively contributing to the 2008 Pride celebrations, including producing a short film during a residential visit and an invitation to attend the Mayors Pride Reception at city hall! At the end of this year the society’s efforts were recognised by the Students Union when we were awarded ‘Most Progress as a Society’ in the 2008 Sports and Societies Awards.
2009-2010 welcomed our new president Chloe Hope King. We attended NUS LGBT conference in Liverpool, which was great fun for everyone and some serious issues where addressed and plans made for the future. Loads of amazing new contacts have been made through out the country, and specifically between the other London universities LGBT networks. Several meetings and social events where organised and some very exciting plans where made for the next year!
2010-2011 In the first meeting of the year, the network unanimously voted to add Q to our name. We partied at numerous socials, attended several marches and protests as well as NUS LGBT conference in Sheffield and held a village fete style fund raiser for World Aids Day!
2011-12 Lots of exciting things are planned for this year such as... Regular meetings, socials and events... Attending NUS LGBT conference... Exciting fundraisers + campaigns... An LGBTQ art exhibition
