► Course Reps

//So, what is a Course Rep

It's all in the name - Course Reps represent the students on their course! They are the first line of student representation within the University. Most courses will have at least one rep who is responsible for ensuring your views are listened to by your department or school.

These views can be anything to do with your experience within your school or department including your teaching and learning experience, the availability of resources such as in the library right through to the pastoral support you receive from your personal tutors.

Course Reps sit on a variety of different meetings at different levels of the University decision making structure. This allows for them to raise any issues that you might bring to them. There are also University staff on these committees who help work out the best ways to resolve issues that have been highlighted.

//How Can I Be A Course Rep?

Course Reps usually start their roles around October of each year, just after courses begin teaching.  Your Course Director should make you aware of the scheme in week one of your course, providing you with information on what a rep is and how you can go about becoming one.

 By week four a simple election should take place, if more than one student is interested in the role. This ensures that each rep is democratically chosen by other students on their course. However, you can volunteer at any point during the academic year if you do not have a rep.

If you are interested in becoming a Course Rep or you are concerned that your course has no Course Rep then just get in touch with your Course Director and the Students' Union (coursereps@su.arts.ac.uk) who will work to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

//Already a Course Rep?

We have a wealth of resources and essential information on our 'I AM A REP' mini-site.
