GO GREEN WEEK 09 ran from the 1st -8th May, and saw students from all the colleges come together to discuss ‘green’ issues and join in the various activities; workshops, talks, film showings, swap shops and more. Although attendance at some of the events was not what we initially hoped, (we think due to the time of year) the ideas and the effort behind the week were very well received by both staff and students. Throughout the week, the Students’ Union were out and about advertising the events and asking students to ‘sign’ the Green Charter. I say ‘sign’ as we did a photo petition – getting students to have their picture taken with the charter rather that sign a tradition (un-environmentally friendly!) paper petition. In total around 270 pictures have been collated onto our campaign blog – wewantartslondontogogreen.blogspot.com – some of which you can see alongside this text. As many of the pictures have multiple students and groups of students in, a conservative estimate would be that around 1000 students showed their support for the objectives set out in the Green Charter. GO GREEN WEEK 09 also attracted attention from outside organisations such a “Love London” believed to be the biggest annual green festival in the world, who are keen to work with the Students’ Union next year to make GO GREEN WEEK even bigger & better in 2010. |
