A futuristic film showing the regret about the way the world handled climate change. 'The Age of Stupid' is the cinema documentary from the Director of 'McLibel' and the Producer of the Oscar-winning 'One Day in September'. This enormously ambitious drama-documentary-animation hybrid stars Oscar-nominated Pete Postlethwaite as an old man living in the devastated world of 2055, watching 'archive' footage from 2008 and asking: why didn't we stop climate change while we had the chance? It offers intriguing insights into the stories of a series of people affected by some aspect of the global warming phenomenon … including; a Hurricane Katrina victim, an elderly French mountain guide, and an 8-year-old Iraq war refugee - Their stories vividly highlight the various tentacles of the climate change problem and, in some cases, its potential solutions.

8.30pm | FILM: An Inconvenient Truth![]()
![]()
Lecture Theatre | The Student Hub | 65 Davies Street | W1K 5DA

Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth makes the compelling case that global warming is real, man-made, and its effects will be catastrophic if we don’t act now. It focuses his travels in support of his efforts to educate the public about the severity of the climate crisis. Gore says, "I've been trying to tell this story for a long time and I feel as if I've failed to get the message across." The film closely follows a Keynote presentation (dubbed "the slide show") that Gore presented throughout the world. It intersperses Gore's exploration of data and predictions regarding climate change and its potential for disaster with his own story.

As part of both the University Go Green Week, this event will aim to inspire you to use your design creativity to make a difference but also what 'green' issues do you need to consider if you work in or run any type of design practice.
3 key speakers aiming to inform & inspire you are:
Jason Allcorn from [re]design will explore current trends and the importance of both social and sustainable design practice. He'll also share how [re]design approach the subject in their work. www.redesigndesign.org

We're lucky enough to hear from Amelia Gregory of 'Amelia's Magazine' which is an exciting blend of art, music & fashion. Her 'Earth' section regularly tackles green issues so fingers crossed she can make it http://www.ameliasmagazine.com/magazine/earth/ Her recent book is all about how illustration can be used to envisage an alternative greener future: http://tiny.cc/GVfsr
We'd also hoped to hear from Leo Murray who created Wake Up & Freak Out, a brilliant example of how you can use your creativity for social purpose. His recent RSA interview on arts & ecology is pretty stirring stuff!
