Create Late: Fresh StART!

Music, film screenings, workshops, activities, exhibitions, talks, games, installations and of course, a fully stocked bar...For our special Freshers’ Create Late anything goes – our fabulous UAL Arts Societies will be showing you what they can offer and our friends from the wider London art scene will be there too.

* You don't need to be five years old to have you face painted at Create Late. Our expert face painter can transform you into whatever you want - whether cute bunny rabbit or scary zombie!
* A film screening of Banksy's Exit Through The Gift Shop - apparently 'one of the most provocative films about art ever made' - starts at 7:30pm. We'll be giving out free popcorn too :-)
* Our fab Life Drawing Society will be staging a 'Costume Portrait Evening' workshop - try your hand at life drawing and/or pose as a model. All materials provided.
* Get your very own beautiful henna tattoo done
* Have fun helping our Curation Society create UAL's very own Jackson-Pollock-esque painting
* UAL's Christian Society stage an activity asking you to consider who you are
* UAL's Marxist Society stage a special film screening
* Create a plasticine landscape - make a figurine and contribute it to the expanding installation
* Great DJs all evening
* Flee market from Corsica Studios will be bringing some of their stalls along
* Peckham Space will be inviting you to decorate one of their SW5 postcards
* Jerwood Visual Arts will be sharing information about how you can get involved with them
* As well as cheap student drinks at the bar, we'll have free tea and biscuits so you can sit down and relax whilst you make things and learn new skills. Thanks to the lovely people at Teapigs!

Emulating the format of gallery and museum late night opening events, Create Lates are a new brand of event for University of the Arts London. Taking place on a regular basis at a variety of locations, each Create Late will explore a specific theme and pose a unique opportunity for students to not only attend but to participate.
For the attendee, it will be a chance to be part of a more sophisticated event, to learn something new and take something away from your night out. Live music and DJs will be playing alongside film screenings, lectures, workshops, activities, exhibitions, games, installations and of course, a fully stocked bar.
In addition to this, Create Lates will provide a platform for students to participate and create the content of the event themselves. It is a chance for them to promote their own talents and interests to others by playing a DJ set, teaching someone how to make shadow puppets, creating an art installation in front of people’s eyes, showing someone how to body-pop, decorating people’s hands with henna tattoos, drawing caricatures – the list is endless!
We hope that we can provide opportunities for students to work alongside alumni, external artists, practitioners, creative campaigns and organisations during these events. We would welcome these external parties to our on-site events, but we also hope to involve organisations in a more integral way by taking Create Lates, and their large student audiences, out of the University and into host venues around London.
All Create Lates will be free to attend and will be open to students and the general public.
